At last night’s premiere of The Smurfs at the Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC, Katy Perry seemed determined to outshine fellow co-stars Jayma Mays and Sofia Vergara.
Jayma was gorgeous in a kelly green dress with beautiful sequin flower appliqués in shades of purple and green. We love how she kept the look simple with subtle dark purple pumps and understated clutch.
Sofia Vergara was her typical bombshell self in a curve-hugging floor length gown. The detailing on the dress is impeccable, and we can’t stop applauding Sofia’s choice of accessories with the amazing turquoise drop earrings and stacked bracelets in purple and turquoise. The earrings pop against her dark hair, drawing eyes to look first at her face before moving to the gown and bracelets.
And then there was Katy Perry. Never one to blend into the background, newly-blonde Katy donned an extra-short dress (even by her standards) featuring a depiction of her Smurfette character in crystals. Her blue smokey eyes and super dramatic lashes looked fantastic, but we weren’t as keen on her nails. Of course, we thought the Christian Louboutins in the perfect shade of bright blue were a nice touch.
Finally, Olivia Palmero was one of the many celebrities in attendance at the premiere. She went for a boho-chic look complete with sheer top and skirt which we weren’t too keen about. For one thing, it’s not quite red carpet (or in this instance blue carpet) appropriate. Movie premieres are opportunities to bring your fashion A-game, and we know Olivia can do better.
Aside from that, we’re not proponents of sheer skirts because let’s face it – it’s just awkward. It also seems like there’s too much going on although at the surface the ensemble seems fairly simple. Between the tied sleeves, mini belt chain, tiered skirt and sandals that don’t quite go, the whole thing just didn’t come together.
